Satire for World Fair Trade Day?

This Saturday, like every other second Saturday in May, is World Fair Trade Day. I am a big believer in this spring-time tradition of celebrating Fair Trade, especially because producer countries really get into it with festivals, political actions, and teach-ins. This year's theme is Kids Need Fair Trade.

The Onion News Network has a new spoof on child labor in the clothing industry. I mean no offense to those who suffer from abusive child labor, and I confess I'm wearing a pair of Gap Jeans as I type this. But a little bit of satire and irony goes a long way to making social commentary. If you are concerned about child labor, check out the work of Rugmark and Fair Trade Sports.
